Heartburn causes & symptoms

Heartburn affects most people at some stage of their lives. It occurs when hydrochloric acid from the stomach moves past the oesophageal valve and up into the oesophagus, burning the sensitive tissue of the oesophagus and causing pain.

Common symptoms of heartburn include a burning sensation in the chest and difficulty swallowing.
